North East singer Josh Newell Brown has progressed towards reaching his dream of becoming a high profile touring music artist after winning the Soundwaves Music Competition at O2 Academy, Newcastle.
Josh Newell Brown is a talented singer and songwriter from Saltburn who specialises in alternative folk pop and saw off competition from hundreds of other acts across the North East and beyond to win the final of the competition last Saturday night at the prestigious O2 Academy, Newcastle mainstage where the likes of Franz Ferdinand are scheduled to perform.
The show which included Capital FM’s Bodg and Matt and industry judges including Spark FM’s Head of Music Larnie Moles was a huge success packed with screaming music fans of all ages. The judges said they could hear elements from many different artists in Josh’s music, including James Arthur to Bob Dylan and marked Josh very highly.
At the end of the O2 Academy Newcastle show, Josh was crowned the winner and has won a slot to compete in the newly national Soundwaves Music Competition finale for the chance to win management and a full UK Tour plus an array of huge prizes.
To compete in the competition Josh had to endure several tough audition stages and a tough video stage.
The final of Soundwaves Music Competition consisted of 15 of the best unsigned acts across the North East including last years winner Chris Pryke as special guest and was played in front of a capacity crowd and industry judges at O2 Academy, Newcastle mainstage where the likes of George Ezra and Sam Smith performed sold out gigs. The winner was selected by a panel of expert judges, including Capital FM’s Bodg and other music industry personnel.
Josh celebrated in style after the show and said “It has been crazy, when I got home after the final I couldn’t sleep I was buzzing so much. The experience has been amazing and I’ve now realised my dream of performing on the mainstage at O2 Academy, Newcastle”
Josh is releasing new music soon and is expected to record brand new live lounge style videos with the Soundwaves Music Competition’s subsidiary label Subwaves to launch his music before competing in the national online final.
